Rail News: Railroading Supplier Spotlight
Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) recently awarded a $187 million contract to ALSTOM Transport to supply 120 subway cars.
WMATA plans to use the cars to accommodate system growth and expand trains to eight cars.
The authority is exercising an option from a contract awarded in June 2002 for 62 subway cars, which WMATA plans to use on its Blue Line extension to Largo Town Center when it opens next month.
Featuring ALSTOM’s propulsion technology, ONIX™ traction drives and an advanced cab signaling system, the cars will be assembled at ALSTOM’s Hornell, N.Y., facilities.
