The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has launched the Sustainable Transit for a Healthy Planet Climate Challenge to support the Biden-Harris administration’s goal to reduce greenhouse-gas (GHG) emissions 50% by 2030.

The challenge calls on transit agencies nationwide to pledge to develop or support climate action strategies with measurable goals to achieve GHG targets.

Last week, FTA Administrator Nuria Fernandez wrote about the challenge in the October edition of American Public Transportation Association’s (APTA) Passenger Transport, and encouraged transit agencies to join. More than 70 agencies nationwide have signed up so far.

The deadline to sign up for the challenge is Oct. 29. Participants must submit their strategies in the form of climate action, sustainability or electrification plans to the FTA by April 15, 2022.
