Union Pacific launches 'Texas Shuttle' intermodal service at Houston port

Union Pacific Railroad recently introduced a "Texas Shuttle" intermodal service between the Port of Houston and Dallas.

The Texas Shuttle is the first and only dedicated intermodal rail service between the port's Barbours Cut Container Terminal and UP's intermodal terminal in Dallas, which is located 12 miles from downtown in Wilmer, Port of Houston Authority officials said in a service announcement.

"The central location of this rail facility and close proximity to the interstate system will allow a seamless connectivity between some of the largest distribution centers and population clusters in central Texas and Mid-America to world markets," they said.

Intermodal freight will be moved from north Texas and surrounding areas, such as Oklahoma and Arkansas, to markets in the Americas, Europe and beyond, authority officials said.

Under an initial service offering, UP will operate the Texas Shuttle two days per week in each direction. The first northbound train departed the port on April 3.
