UP seeks applications for safety grant program

Union Pacific Railroad now is accepting applications for its UP CARES safety grant program, which provides funding for community-owned railroad safety initiatives aimed at encouraging safe behavior around railroad tracks.

Organizations applying for grants are encouraged to develop multifaceted plans that include one-to-one outreach for their communities. Grant-funded initiatives include, but are not limited to: school safety days; community safety programs; grade crossing education efforts; and law enforcement activities.

The online grant application, available at UnionPacificCares.com, provides applicants an opportunity to explain how they plan to use grant funding, the safety initiative's goals, who the initiative will reach and how success will be measured. UP will accept applications through Sept. 30.

The UP CARES public safety initiative promotes pedestrian and driver safety through outreach channels such as grade crossing education and enforcement programs, safety trains, and communication blitzes.
