UP seeks input on communication center standards

Union Pacific Railroad is soliciting public comments on its Response Management Communications Center (RMCC) as part of a required assessment to maintain the center's accreditation.

The center centralizes UP's responses to critical incidents 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The center is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).

CALEA accreditation requires RMCC to comply with advanced standards in policy and procedures, administration, operations and support services. The process phases are enrollment, self-assessment, on-site assessment, commission review and decision and maintaining compliance.

"Union Pacific was one of very few private communications centers to receive CALEA accreditation in 2013 and we voluntarily seek to maintain this highly-regarded approval of excellence for safety agencies," said RMCC Director Brian Jarrett. "Maintaining accreditation underscores [that] RMCC continually meets the highest level of internationally recognized standards for public safety communications."

The general public and UP employees are asked to provide feedback about the center by calling (877) 859-9008, Tuesday, July 26, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Central Standard Time. The center's assessment team will process the comments.

The calls will be limited to 10 minutes and should address the center's ability to comply with CALEA's standards.

Written comments also may be sent to the CALEA.
