Union Pacific Railroad yesterday announced it has recognized 95 companies with its annual Pinnacle Award for safely transporting chemicals by rail in 2022.
The annual award honors customers who implement release prevention protocols, corrective action plans and have zero non-accident releases of regulated hazardous materials shipments, UP officials said in a press release.
The 95 businesses share UP's "commitment to the safe transportation of chemicals, which are used for things like cleaning drinking water and making household products," said Jacque Bendon, vice president of industrial, marketing and sales.
"This annual award is our way of recognizing our customers who share our commitment to protecting the environment and the communities along our rail network," Bendon said.
UP's hazardous materials safety team provides joint rail safety training programs and rail-car inspections. In addition, the Class I locates hazmat teams regionally across the UP network with a mission that promotes prevention, preparedness, response and recovery.
