The Victoria County Navigation District, which oversees the Port of Victoria, has received a $20.4 million grant from the Texas Department of Transportation's Maritime Infrastructure Program (MIP) to fund the first phase of a rail infrastructure project at the Texas Logistics Center (TXLC).
The project's first phase will begin in first-quarter 2024 and is expected to take a year to complete, port officials said in a press release. The project calls for adding more than 42,000 feet of track, including the construction of three 10,000-foot drop-and-pull tracks. Subsequent phases will include storage tracks, transloading operations and connections to new tenants. Upon completion, TXLC will be served by Union Pacific Railroad and BNSF Railway Co.
In addition to the grant, the project also be funded by Victoria County and the Victoria Sales Tax Development Corp., each of which will contribute $3 million.
Also, the port will receive funding for the North Site Access Road and Transloading Project through the TXDOT Seaport Connectivity Program. That total project cost is $1,977,922, with the grant covering $1,566,757.
In total, the port will receive more than $27.9 million in grants, has more than 610 acres under option and is negotiating for an additional 175 acres.
