Union Pacific Railroad yesterday announced that 137 companies are being recognized with the Class I's 2023 Pinnacle Award for their commitment to safely transporting chemicals by rail.

The number of recipients is the highest the railroad has recognized in more than a decade, UP officials said in a news release.

The annual award honors customers that implement release prevention protocols, corrective action plans and have zero non-accident releases of regulated hazardous materials shipments.

"Our customers share our commitment to the safe transportation of chemicals, and we have a collaborative goal of protecting the environment and communities along our rail network," said Jacque Bendon, UP's senior vice president of industrial, marketing and sales.
