Union Pacific Railroad recently won the 2012 Rail Carrier of the Year Award from Lowe's Home Improvement. The Class I attained the honor for the second consecutive year and third time since Lowe's began the rail carrier recognition program in 2009.

The retailer recognized UP's "superior commitment to customer service and its ability to differentiate itself from other railroads by providing a variety of transportation solutions," railroad officials said in a press release.

To meet Lowe's transportation needs, UP partners with its Union Pacific Distribution Services subsidiary, which provides door-to-door transportation services that combine the economies of long-haul rail service with the flexibility of over-the-road movements.

The award "recognizes our reliable and innovative freight transportation solutions that create value for our customer, and we look forward to providing this same great service in the future," said Brad Thrasher, UP's vice president and general manager-industrial products.
