Rail News: Union Pacific Railroad
National business group pegs UP as a top health-promoting employer
The National Business Group on Health (NBGH) has named Union Pacific Railroad one of the Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles for 2014.
Recognized at the platinum level for its ongoing commitment and dedication to promoting a healthy work environment, UP was among 63 U.S. employers that attained the honor. The Class I now has won NBGH's award 10 times.
The railroad's wellness programs assess and provide intervention support for health-risk factors, including asthma, blood pressure, cholesterol, depression, diabetes, fatigue, inactivity, nutrition, smoking, stress and weight, UP officials said in a press release.
"Union Pacific is committed to offering a number of health promotion programs that support employee well-being," said Vice President of Human Resources Roy Schroer. "Wellness is an important factor in employee safety, and we are honored to be recognized for our efforts."
Since launching a wellness program more than 26 years ago, the Class I continues to develop resources, such as a recently piloted Worksite Wellness Challenge that recognizes work units for engaging employees and encouraging them to pursue wellness goals.
