Last month, Union Pacific Railroad loaded 1,047 coal trains in the Southern Powder River Basin (SPRB) compared with 1,031 trains in October 2010. In the Colorado/Utah Region, the Class I loaded 267 coal trains, up 30 percent compared with the 206 trains loaded in the year-ago period. In October, the railroad met 95 percent of National Coal Transportation Association (NCTA) demand in the SPRB and 98.5 percent of NCTA demand the Colorado/Utah Region, according to UP’s latest weekly coal loading performance report.
