Last month, Union Pacific Railroad loaded 1,044 coal trains in the Southern Powder River Basin (SPRB) compared with 993 trains in March 2010.
The Class I registered 42 missed SPRB loading opportunities, 94 of which were attributable to slow unloading operations at utility plants, 27 to mines, 20 to the railroad and one to the joint line UP shares with BNSF Railway Co. However, missed loadings were partially offset by 101 extra loadings in March, UP officials said in a weekly coal loading performance report.
In the Colorado/Utah Region, the railroad loaded 230 coal trains last month vs. 244 trains in March 2010.
UP met 97.5 percent of National Coal Transportation Association (NCTA) demand in the SPRB and 102.2 percent of NCTA demand in the Colorado/Utah Region in March.
