Union Pacific Railroad was designated the top “Military Friendly Employer” in the transportation industry for 2021 and ranked No. 7 overall by Viqtory Media, publisher of G.I. Jobs magazine.

More than 17 percent of UP employees, or 6,300, are veterans and active-service military members.

About 80 UP employees are deployed every month and receive additional support from a UP liaison who guides them through the deployment process, UP officials said in a press release.

UP partners with Wounded Warriors, Veteran Affairs and local veteran organizations to host career fairs, and offers a veteran employee resource group called UP VETS to help attract, develop and retain veterans at the Class I.

The magazine’s 2021 list of Top Military Friendly Employers also includes BNSF Railway Co., Norfolk Southern Railway, and intermodal and trucking services provider Schneider.
