advertisement
Later this month, Union Pacific Railroad plans to increase train speeds in western Wisconsin communities from 30 mph to 50 mph.
Last year, the Class I completed track improvements along more than 20 miles of its line between Hudson and Menomonie, Wis., to accommodate higher train speeds. The railroad spent more than $4 million to replace rail between Hudson and Menomonie, improve surfaces at 26 grade crossings and replace five switches.
UP expects to boost train speeds by 10 mph on Feb. 21 and another 10 mph on Feb. 28 to reach the new maximum 50 mph speed limit.
