Union Pacific Railroad will perform $22.3 million worth of infrastructure work in Idaho this year.

The investments will include $16.1 million to maintain track and $1.1 million to maintain bridges in the state, according to a UP press release.

Key projects planned this year will include $5.7 million to replace more than 42,000 ties between Athol and Spokane, Washington, along UP's Spokane subdivision; $2.9 million to replace old welds to make the track smoother between Naples and Bonners Ferry; and $2.7 million to replace 3 miles of curve rail along the Pocatello subdivision between Kemmerer and Pocatello.

Over the past five years, UP has spent more than $205 million to improve its infrastructure in Idaho. This year, the Class I plans to spend $3.3 billion across its network.
