Yesterday, the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) board of governors announced that Union Pacific Railroad Vice President of Engineering Joseph Santamaria had been elected AREMA governor for the 2014-17 term. Santamaria began his railroad career in 1977 with Conrail, where he held various positions for the next 13 years. In 1990, he joined UP, where he served as director of locomotive shops, general director of locomotive maintenance, chief mechanical officer, VP - Central and South Regions, and VP of transportation prior to assuming his current post in 2012. Santamaria will take the governor's reins at the AREMA 2014 Annual Conference & Exposition, which will be held Sept. 28-Oct. 1 in Chicago.
