Union Pacific cites September coal train counts, shares two execs' recent honors

In September, Union Pacific Railroad loaded 894 coal trains in the Southern Powder River Basin compared with 1,093 trains in September 2011. The Class I loaded an average of 29.8 trains per day in the basin.
The railroad also announced that in the Colorado/Utah Region, coal train loadings totaled 229 last month versus 251 in September 2011. The region's daily loading average for the month was 7.6 trains.
In addition, UP announced that Executive Vice President of Marketing and Sales Eric Butler made Black Enterprise magazine's list of the 100 Most Powerful Executives in Corporate America. The magazine selects top executives from publicly traded or international companies who are among the highest ranking executives within his or her organization, and manage national or global business.
"It is an honor to receive this recognition by Black Enterprise, which truly is a reflection of the great teamwork we exhibit at Union Pacific," said Butler in a prepared statement.
Meanwhile, Senior VP of Law and General Counsel Gayla Thal is recognized by Profiles in Diversity Journal in its 11th annual list of "Women Worth Watching."
The magazine recognizes women executives' leadership successes that encourage aspiring business leaders and help advance women into leadership ranks.
Thal joined UP as a litigator in 1980 and since has held a number of positions, including VP and chief compliance officer. In that post, she led the Class I's compliance and ethics program, implemented best-practice legal procedures and helped institute a "strong ethical culture," UP officials said.
