Union Pacific Railroad in 2024 invested more than $1 million in free college tuition for employees through the Class I's educational assistance program.

Full-time UP employees can enroll in courses to pursue advanced degrees at their own pace. Since the program was launched in 2020, more than 1,000 employees have become students and 27 student employees recently earned degrees, UP officials said in the company's  "Inside Track" blog.

Through partnerships with the University of Nebraska at Omaha and Metropolitan Community College, UP employees also may qualify for accelerated admission, waived fees, dedicated enrollment counselors and other benefits.
