Woman of Influence in Rail

Marcia Shapiro

President
Marine Tiger Technologies

Job description: While leading technology projects for transportation agencies first for Spear Technologies and later for CH2M Hill, Marcia struggled to find women-owned businesses to serve as subconsultants. Recognizing the growing importance of technology for solving business and operational problems, Marcia founded Marine Tiger Technologies in 2010, becoming certified as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise and a Women-Owned Business Enterprise. She has been president ever since.

Why she's influential as a leader: Under Marcia's leadership, Marine Tiger has become a trusted partner to major East Coast transportation agencies. As a leader, she emphasizes inclusivity and empowering women at Marine Tiger and in the transportation sector. She tries to foster a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on measurable outcomes, and her dedication to equity and professional development has created paths for individuals to advance. Marine Tiger has doubled its staff to 45 employees under her guidance, with nearly 50% of new hires being women. She actively supports Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS) and the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials through sponsorships and mentoring. Marcia has also championed women-owned businesses within WTS. She remains a participant in WTS's Executive Leadership and Women Business Owners Roundtables.

Meanwhile, her focus on work-life balance has positioned Marine Tiger as a model employer. Flexible schedules and a supportive environment ensure employees thrive personally and professionally, fostering long-term engagement and success. This employee-centered culture, combined with Marcia's leadership, has solidified Marine Tiger's reputation in rail and transit consulting.
