Job description: Maryam joined National Steel Car in 2013 and became director of engineering design in 2018. Since then, she's been instrumental in developing key product offerings such as the Sodium Chlorate Covered Hopper, High Efficiency Grain Car and 5-Trough Transverse Coil Car.

Why she's influential as a leader: Maryam's team contributes directly to National Steel Car's success in rail-car manufacturing. She leads a team of 10 to 15 engineers — ranging from co-op students to senior design engineers — with a direct, yet compassionate, style. Her team is responsible for developing new rail cars and continuous upgrades to existing designs.

Maryam has become a mentor to her team and other company employees to help them develop personally and professionally. She works hard so that her team has the tools, knowledge and support necessary for success. She accepts and encourages input to make sure everyone's view is considered.
