The Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority (CCJPA) in California has received a $42.51 million federal grant to complete the first phase of its Sacramento-to-Roseville Third Track Project.
Once completed, the project will result in two additional round trips between Sacramento and Roseville on the Capitol Corridor rail service. The Federal Railroad Administration awarded the grant through the Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) Program.
CCJPA is pursuing other state and federal support for rail enhancement projects along the Capitol Corridor’s 170-mile corridor from Auburn to San Jose. The CRISI award will close the remaining funding gap, enabling the completion of the Phase 1 project, authority officials said in a press release. The state will provide a 71.9% non-federal match.
The heavily traveled rail corridor is owned by Union Pacific Railroad and serves Capitol Corridor, Amtrak long-distance service and UP freight traffic.
