Connecticut DOT plans fare hike on commuter-rail routes

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) in December will raise fares on two commuter-rail routes.

Fares on the Shore Line East route and MTA Metro-North Railroad's New Haven Line will rise 6 percent, according to a CTDOT press release.

The department also will eliminate the current 2 percent discount on "Mail and Ride" tickets.

"As we looked to meet our budget requirements, our primary goal was to maintain all existing bus and rail service statewide for the thousands of people who depend on them every day,” said CTDOT Commissioner James Redeker. "Combined with other steps to reduce expenses, this fare increase allows us to meet that goal."
