Rail News: Financials
A softening rail-car market — and, therefore, declining orders and backlogs — likely will mean lower earnings for FreightCar America Inc. The car builder estimates second-quarter net income will total between 85 cents and 95 cents per diluted share.
However, the car builder also announced it has received a commitment from an undisclosed customer to purchase 1,900 hopper cars, which will be used in coal and coke service. FreightCar America will begin delivering the hoppers in January 2008.
