Rail News: Financials
During its second fiscal quarter, The Greenbrier Cos. boosted revenue 53 percent to $255 million and increased rail-car deliveries 35 percent to 3,100 units compared with the second quarter of fiscal-year 2004. Today, the car builder reported it obtained second-quarter orders totaling 5,000 units, including 4,500 double-stack intermodal cars.
As of Feb. 28, Greenbrier’s combined North American and European car backlog stood at 12,300 units valued at $720 million compared with 10,000 units valued at $560 million on Feb. 29, 2004.
"We remain on pace to deliver nearly 13,000 rail cars in fiscal-year 2005,” said Greenbrier Senior Vice President and Treasurer Mark Rittenbaum in a prepared statement. “We plan to complete a debt financing during the fiscal year to provide additional growth capital, take advantage of favorable market conditions and maintain our highly liquid capital position.”
