Here's the latest developments from rail industry suppliers and service providers:

• Bombardier Inc. reported first-quarter revenue of $4.8 billion, up 21 percent compared with first-quarter 2007's total. Net income nearly tripled to $226 million. Bombardier Transportation revenue rose nearly 30 percent year over year to $2.4 billion. The company's order backlog on April 30 stood at $31.4 billion. During the quarter, Bombardier Transportation obtained orders worth $2.4 billion.

• Parsons Brinckerhoff obtained a general engineering consultant services contract from CSX Transportation. The contract calls for the firm to provide engineering services on an on-call basis for projects focusing on the northwest region, including Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee. Various design services would include track, civil, structural, electrical, mechanical, environmental and geotechnical engineering.

• Engineering firm Skelly and Loy has relocated its western Pennsylvania office from Monroeville to Pittsburgh to serve clients from a more centralized location. The firm provides environmental and ecological assessment, geo-environmental investigation and remediation, and other services.

• Wonderware won a contract from China's Ministry of Railways to provide software designed to manage customer service systems and monitor assets at four high-speed rail stations between Beijing and Tianjin. Wonderware will supply an integrated platform to support public address systems, passenger information video displays, closed-circuit television monitoring, and other station functions.
