Carl Gerhardstein, Director of Environmental Systems, CSX

Carl Gerhardstein is Assistant Vice President of Environmental Systems for CSX Transportation. He is responsible developing various environmental compliance and sustainability programs for CSX, including air, water, and hazardous waste permits and plans for railroad operations in 23 states covering more than 21,000 route miles. In addition, he is responsible for managing and properly estimating CSX's long-term environmental remediation liability reserves. Mr. Gerhardstein is entering his 28th year with CSX and has been in the environmental department for the past 16 years. Before joining that department, he served 12 years with the railroad's engineering department. Carl holds a BSCE from the University of Kentucky, a MBA from the University of Phoenix and is a registered Professional Engineer in Florida and Alabama.
